Event Decor Ideas in Shades of Orange, from Terracotta to Tangerine
When you think of wedding color palettes, orange might not be the first hue that comes to mind, but it’s an incredibly versatile color family that’s gaining in popularity at the moment. I love working with all shades of orange in my wedding and event designs - from deep, earthy tones like terracotta, amber, ochre, burnt sienna and rust, to vibrant, juicy tones like tangerine, apricot, coral and peach. Each shade tells a story of its own and will bring a unique energy to your design. Depending on the atmosphere you’re trying to create at your event, here are two approaches you can take to designing an event, or an interior, with an orange hued palette…
How to Mute Orange Shades Down
Choose one version of orange as your starting point, and combine it with slightly darker and lighter shades of the same color to build a monochromatic palette.
Opt for an earthy shade of orange like terracotta or amber and pair it with warm neutrals like cream, blush and copper.
Use a rich, muted orange as an accent color in a dark grey, navy or deep green color palette.
How to Play Orange Shades Up
Combine bright orange tones with corals and pinks for a high energy, cheerful look, or pair orange flowers with lots of greenery for a natural flower garden feel.
Look to the sunset for inspiration! There are so many spectacular shades of yellow, orange and pink in a sunset and they all go together beautifully. You’ll see that even opposing colors like blue and lavender can pair with orange for a dynamic and unexpected accent.
Have fun with in-season orange fruits as creative accents to your floral arrangements and decor. Place perfect looking peaches on your seating card table, or incorporate bright kumquats in your floral arrangements.
