Eggcelent! Buttercream & Yellow Creative Floral Arrangement

You never know where inspiration might strike! For this DIY tutorial video I wanted to create something unique using a simple yellow ceramic egg container I had on hand, so I ran with the idea of a celebratory spring brunch! What I came up with was a collection of fun buttercream and yellow floral arrangements that would work wonderfully on a kitchen counter or a buffet table when hosting breakfast or brunch with your friends. Watch the video and read on for a few extra tips and tricks!

PREPARATION

Look for containers with multiple sizes and heights, and don’t limit yourself to vases specifically meant for flowers! I'm using containers found in the kitchen; a ceramic egg carton, a soup bowl and a compote or footed container. For the bowl and compote, I presoaked Oasis foam in water and then cut it to size to fit each bowl. For the egg carton, I gently removed the tops from 6 brown eggs, poured out the egg white and yolk, and then filled the egg shells with fresh water. Easy!

FLOWER SELECTION

I'm using a lovely combination of flowers in pale yellow, deep yellow and buttercream tones. The selection I found at my flower market happened to be mums, ranunculus, stock, yarrow, spray roses and variegated greenery, but anything in this color family would work! The key is to experiment and have fun using the materials available to you.

CREATING A FEELING OF ABUNDANCE

Arrangements can stay simple and cost effective by using only one or two types of blooms, but the key to success is often to create a feeling of abundance. When needed, like in the two bowl arrangements here, don't be afraid to cut your stems into the sizes and lengths you need to fill in the gaps and create a super full, round shape. Extra Tip: when placing longer stems into your floral foam, hold the stems close to the bottom rather than near the bloom so they are less likely to break.
